I was invited by a fellow wikimedian to participate to this event designed to be inclusive for non binary folx, after sharing quite a few micro aggressions on the francophone wikipedia, where I founded a project called Les sans pagEs. Welcoming newbies is a challenge there because some problematic interractions might go unoticed. So basically I am always interested to learn something new and innovative to bring more inclusivity and friendliness to my community on wikipedia.
This wikimedian had described how the Fedora community was really welcoming and explained the principle of the Fedora badges.
I found the concept really inspiring, but would not have considered joining on that perspective, thinking I had close to nothing to offer to this "fedorable" community. TBH I felt really shy, gven that I was told the wikipedia community had a bad reputation in OSS projects. It made my heart bleed because I know so many great people in that community, who are trying to change things from the inside to make it more friendly. Having an open wiki allowing anyone to edit can be challenging.
I liked the hopin venue and found the welcoming really impressive, but did not know what or where to contribute.
Marie Nordin after an intro where we spoke a lot about art, poetry and fedora badges  (that I found really gratifying that she would take time to welcome a newbie) proposed that I contribute to the Fedora Zine. I wrote a small poem. That was a gratifyng step, although I did feel like an imposteure, given the fact I was not yet part of that community!
Registering was complex, I did not understand everything (accounts, pagure, how to download a pic for the zine). But the people were really nice and welcoming.
After that I was stuck in limbo for many months, not knowing where to go or what to do and still feeling very shy.

FWD experience
