| Tom Baeyens || Workflow in java || Sunday 2008-02-24..: between 12:00 and 18:00 || Tom Baeyens is the founder and lead developer of JBoss jBPM. Abstract: JBoss jBPM is an open source platform that supports workflow, business process management, and service orchestration.  Though BPEL has a big brand name associated to BPM, people start to realize that it is not a silver bullet. Recently two process component models have taken a different point of view.  Multiple process languages are taken as the goal and process component models are frameworks on which multiple languages can be build. Tom'll look at some examples of the Process Virtual Machine and explain how this technology can be used as the basis for workflow, BPM and orchestration.  Attending this talk will give a good overview of the complete JBoss jBPM project.

[edit] What FOSDEM is

FOSDEM is a free and non-commercial event for the community and organised by the community. Its goal is to provide Free and Open Source developers and communities a place to meet to

  • get in touch with other developers and projects,
  • get informed about the latest developments in the Free and Open Source world,
  • attend to interesting talks and presentations held in large conference rooms by Free and Open Source project leaders and commiters on various topics,
  • and to promote the development and the benefits of Free and Open Source solutions.

As for being a free event, participation and attendance is totally free of charge (although we thankfully accept donations and sponsorship). To help the community, FOSDEM sets up DevRooms (Developer Rooms) where teams can meet and showcase their projects. It is also a place where a team can discuss, code (hacking sessions), publicly present latest directions, lightning talks, news, and decisions. The FOSDEM Team thinks it is very important that developers from around the world can meet 'in real life' and we believe projects can benefit from these meetings. Common facilities such as network/internet connectivity and projectors are provided by us.

Last year there were more than 160 talks in the developer rooms, and then the main tracks, as well as the LPI exams, plus lightning talks and GPG/CAcert key signing.

[edit] Jboss Speakers

Tom Baeyens Workflow in java Sunday 2008-02-24..: between 12:00 and 18:00 Tom Baeyens is the founder and lead developer of JBoss jBPM.

Friday

FedoraEvents FOSDEM FOSDEM2008 DeliriumCafe0.png

As every year, there will be a FOSDEM beer event on Friday night before FOSDEM (22 February 2008).

Unlike previous years, this year's event will take place at the Delirium Café, in a beautiful gallery near the Grand'Place in Brussels. In addition to the enormous variety in beers, the new location also has enough room to cater for the enormous crowd of geeks we tend to be.

While coming over to Brussels to attend FOSDEM, don't miss this great opportunity to taste some of the finest beer in Belgium (and, hence, in the world).

The bar is ours to invade from 17:30 onwards, but feel free to join the party at any time of the evening. We will be there until the bar closes (well after midnight).
