This explains how to create an idea page for the Summer Coding ideas page. For now, this is a wiki-only process.

If you run in to trouble doing this, ask for help.

You can ask for help in making an idea page on IRC via #fedora-summer-coding or on #fedora-summer-docs. You may also contact us via the discussion mailing list. If all else fails, just put your idea in the main Category:Summer Coding 2010 ideas page and someone will help you finish it later.

  1. Open the page Category:Summer Coding 2010 ideas for edit.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list of ideas, and add a new second-level section above the [[:Category:...]] tag:
    == Name of idea ==
  3. Inside that section, create one transclusion link:
    {{:Summer Coding 2010 ideas - Name of idea - shortinfo}}
  4. Save the page, noting in the comment that you are creating the links to pull in a new idea, which you name in the comment "Name of idea"; to be fancy, put a link to the idea in the comment Summer Coding 2010 ideas - Name of idea - shortinfo.
  5. When the page Category:Summer Coding 2010 ideas reloads with your new link, the link is red because the short information page you linked to doesn't exist yet. Click on the link to begin creating it.
  6. In another tab, open the idea sample shortinfo idea page and edit it: Summer Coding 2010 ideas - Idea page sample - shortinfo.
  7. Copy the source from Summer Coding 2010 ideas - Idea page sample - shortinfo and paste it in to the edit window for your idea shortinfo idea page. This page is going to be transcluded in to a longer main idea page dedicated to the idea. The main idea page is linked from the top of the shortinfo idea page. Make sure to change that link.
  8. When you save the shortinfo idea page, the link to the main idea page appears as a red link. Click on it to open the main idea page for editing.
  9. In another tab, open the sample main idea page and edit it: Summer Coding 2010 ideas - Idea page sample.
  10. Copy the source from the sample main idea page and paste that in to your main idea page. Change the link for the transclusion to that of your shortinfo idea page. Edit the rest of the page to suit. (Comments in the sample pages may be helpful in editing.)
  11. Be sure to leave the category link for both new pages, Category:Summer Coding 2010 ideas.
  12. When all pages are saved, reload Category:Summer Coding 2010 ideas and confirm that your shortinfo idea page appears as expected.
