What You'll need

Basic Workflow

The tickets for the Fedora Design Team are hosted on our Trac site: https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/

  • Log into our trac site using your Fedora Account System username and password. There is a red 'login' link in the upper right of the web page. [Log in now.
  • View our list of open tickets. You can access it via this link or you can click on 'View Tickets' in the Fedora Design Team trac site navigation, then click on 'Open Tickets.'
  • One by one, look through our tickets. You'll find a few different types of tickets; they are outlined below. Actions to take for each type of ticket are listed below. You can start from the top of the list, or from the bottom, however you prefer!

Finding Someone's email address

In the 'Reported by:' field, you'll find the ticket reporter's Fedora Account System username. In the 'Assigned to:' field, you'll find the ticket assignee's / designer's name, if anyone has claimed it.

There are a couple of ways you can track down the email addresses for these folks:

  • Log into the Fedora Account System and search for their username.
  • Go into #fedora-design on irc.freenode.net. 'zodbot' should be in the channel. Type the following in the channel, where 'username' is the username you're looking for:
    1. .fasinfo username

Ticket Types

No one has claimed the ticket.

If a ticket has been open for over a week and no designers have claimed it, please do the following:

  1. Determine if the requester has provided enough info.
    • In the "Component" field of the ticket, you can look up what type of ticket it is. Each type of ticket has a set of required info needed before a designer can work on it effectively. Please compare the info the requester provided in the ticket with the list of information we need depending on the ticket type (you can click on the list needed for the ticket type below):
      • Web design
      • Print design
      • UX design / usability research
      • Release artwork
      • Digital artwork
      • Design & tools education
    • If anything is missing, please set the reporter

Someone reported the ticket, and a designer provided them help, but the reporter never responded.

If a ticket has a design attached to it and the reporter hasn't provided any feedback within a week, please do the following:

  1. Add Keyword: In the 'keywords' field on the ticket, enter in: "needinfo-reporter"
  2. Email Reporter: Contact the reporter and ask them if they had a chance to look at the design, and if they are still interested in having the ticket filled. Here's some sample text you can use:
    • "Hi $NAME, I noticed that you filed Fedora Design Team ticket $TICKET_NUMBER (https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/$TICKET_NUMBER). We've provided a design for you but haven't gotten any feedback from you. Can you take a bit of time and visit the ticket, and provide some feedback on our work? If you are no longer interested in having the ticket filled, please let us know that as well, and we'll be happy to close the ticket for you."
  3. Make a note in the ticket: Please place a note in the ticket itself as well so we'll know whether or not the person was contacted. Something like:
    • "I contacted $USERNAME on 28 June 2011 via email to get an update."

A designer claimed a ticket, but hasn't followed up with the reporter.

If a ticket has been claimed by a designer, but they either haven't attached any design work to the ticket, or they haven't followed up with the reporter on a change to the design in over a week, please do the following:

  1. Add Keyword: In the 'keywords' field on the ticket, enter in: "needinfo-designer"
  2. Email Designer: Contact the design and ask them if they had a chance to look at the design, and if they are still interested in having the ticket filled. Here's some sample text you can use:
    • "Hi $NAME, I noticed that you claimed Fedora Design Team ticket $TICKET_NUMBER (https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/$TICKET_NUMBER). The ticket reporter is still looking for some design help from you. Can you take a bit of time and visit the ticket, and provide some feedback to the reporter? If you are no longer interested in filling the ticket, please let me know that as well, and I'll be happy to close the ticket for you."
  3. Make a note in the ticket: Please place a note in the ticket itself as well so we'll know whether or not the person was contacted. Something like:
    • "I contacted $USERNAME on 28 June 2011 via email to get an update."

Nobody has claimed the ticket and it's been sitting for a week or more.

If a ticket has been open for over a week and no designers have claimed it, please do the following:

  1. Email the design-team@lists.fedoraproject.org list and advertise the ticket to the designers. Here's a good example email you can follow that ixxvil sent out:
    • Subject: Logo request for Cobbler. Any takers?
    • Message: Anyone wish to take up a logo request for Cobbler? If anyone is, I can give you a hand in the drawing part while you could just digitally color it. Link to the ticket: https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/184
    • Please also copy/paste the body of the ticket in the message.

If a week goes by and no designer claims the ticket, please do the following:

  1. Add Keyword:In the 'keywords' field on the ticket, enter in: "bounty-queue"
    • Then, the next time we need a task for the Fedora design-team bounty, we can look at tickets with this keyword to use them.
