Using iproute2 (runtime)

Example configuration:

parent=eth0
vlan=vlan40
vlanid=40

Create a VLAN:

ip link add link $parent $vlan type vlan id $vlanid

Destroy a VLAN:

ip link delete $vlan

Using NetworkManager (permanent)
