F-12-Alpha news

F-12-Alpha-RC1 has arrived

Release engineering Alpha candidate RC1 is available, Fedora QA will be responsible for:

  • Testing the alpha candidate -- QA:Fedora_12_Alpha_RC1_Install_Test_Results
  • Verifying F-12-Alpha blocker bugs:
    1. RHBZ #516909 NEW - kernel > 139 stuck during boot, encrypted LVM VG's
      • User:Markmc noted this bug depends on an unreleased rawhide kernel ... removed from blocker list
    2. RHBZ #516941 MODIFIED - kms broken and can cause oops without git3 upstream PAT patches
      • Clyde chymned in on the bug report with positive test results. Jlaska reported some issues using radeon on his rawhide system (see Template:Bg).
    3. RHBZ #517475 MODIFIED - geode not i686 arch in rpmrc.in
      • Jkeating commented on the test results posted ... what it means to me is that we'd have to change more than just that little rpm bit to get this working for geodes, and that's change I can't stand behind for ALpha

Jkeating noted the test results page was empty. Jlaska indicated the compose landed late and Liam is in training this week. Jlaska would send out a request for testing to the mailing list after the meeting.

Alpha Readiness

How are we looking? Ask the team for input on their focus areas on Alpha readiness.

Installer

Jlaska reported that as of Friday (anaconda-12.14) we have good results in thanks to Liam and Rui (see QA:Fedora_12_Alpha_TCRegression_Install_Test_Results). Based on that and the F12 Alpha blocker bug we are in good shape for the installer. We will of course organize and execute testing against the current RC1 (see QA:Fedora_12_Alpha_RC1_Install_Test_Results).

Dpravec and Kparal both reported a much improved install experience with recent rawhide refreshes on their laptops.

Kparal noted one issue related to multi-monitor setup. Jlaska noted he didn't see any dual-head issues reported at the last fit'n'finish display test day (see Test_Day:2009-07-07_Fit_and_Finish:Display_Configuration). Kparal asked whether it made sense to add bug reports to old test day wiki pages. Adamw replied that it's a good practice, as people setup watchers for the test day pages.

Xorg-x11-*

Adamw notified the team that there are some unpleasant bugs, but nothing that appears to be a show-stopper yet. Jkeating made a decision to postpone the fix for the random screen-blanking issue until post-Alpha.

Adamw advised jlaska on getting a bug reported for a radeon problem experienced on his laptop. When in doubt ... Xorg/Debugging. Jlaska filed Template:Bg to track this issue.

Other?

Jkeating expressed concern about test coverage for live images. Jlaska that live images have been getting a bit of a workout with recent test days and confirmed positive install results from last weeks live image.

AdamW noted that none of the big-hitter applications are broken, we've got annoying things like the notification area bug fixed, it's looking pretty decent to me.

Nirik indicated he was experiencing some compose-related issue with nightly live images ... but those issues shouldn't affect the Alpha. The team chymned in with praise for nirik's daily rawhide live images (see http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes).

AutoQA update from wwoods

Wwoods updated the team on some recent autoqa milestones. The short summary:

I set up a way to pass the systemwide config to the tests
put some email config stuff in the system autoqa.conf
and taught all the tests to send email
so now they're all sending email to the autoqa-results list
 https://fedorahosted.org/pipermail/autoqa-results/2009-August/thread.html

Other recent updates include:

  • updated the test-writing notes a bit: Talk:Autotest
  • fixed the watcher scripts and got them running on a cron job, so the tests run automatically and send emails to autoqa-results when finished
  • fixed the conflicts test
  • Blog-o-sphere

Kparal noted that there is interest from Petr Splichal (nick psss on #fedora-qa) on adding package build tests. Dpravec and Kparal both indicated having test writing documentation would be really helpful. Wwoods confirmed improving the documentation is on the plan (see https://fedorahosted.org/autoqa/ticket/14) and noted any help would be welcome.

Test Day updates

2009-08-11 - Fit'n'Finish - Peripherals

Adamw ran his test day wiki script and sent the result to mclasen with a suggestion he do a report. For the record, it shows 10 NEW, 2 ASSIGNED, one CLOSED for the peripherals day.

2009-08-13 - NetworkManager

See test summary from Adam Williamson - summary

2009-08-18 - Printing

See Matthias Clasen's anncounement - Fit'n'Finish Printing

2009-08-20 - ABRT

ABRT Test day page maturing, stay tuned to announcement from David Pravec. Dpravec noted the wiki page is still undergoing some cleanup and refactoring. Kparal noted he was planning to send out an updated to the test day live image create script, and would have ABRT live images available soon.

Adamw asked if any help was needed in preparing for the event.

2009-08-27 - Dracut

Jlaska asked who has the ball for QA on hosting and preparing for the dracut test day. Jlaska took an action item to catch up with Viking_ice.

Open discussion

vncrobot

Dpravec updated the team of some investigating around using vnc to perform remote GUI verification. http://www.vncrobot.com recently was updated to GPL2 licensing and shows promise. Dpravec plans to monitor and update the team if anything surfaces.

Wwoods noted it seems like it could be really useful once we have some idea how we'd set up for a GUI functional test.

status of gnome-power-manager

Jeff_hann asked the group for an update on gnome-power-manager. Jeff is experiencing some issues against F-11 related to battery on AC power. Jeff and adamw walked through a few bugs to identify if those were the root issue. Jeff had to step out, but would report back with a new bug against F-11 to track his issue.

jlaska | and in an effort to speed up our first topic ... we've assigned no action items from last week Aug 17 12:06
jlaska | we've got a few updates of course, but we can touch on those in the agenda and 'open discussion' Aug 17 12:07
jlaska | let's dive into the Alpha (or come up for air) Aug 17 12:07
jlaska | #topic F-12-Alpha update Aug 17 12:07
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: F-12-Alpha update (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 12:07
jlaska | Oxf13 composed a F-12-Alpha-RC1 this weekend Aug 17 12:08
jlaska | Liam and Rui are in training this week, so I'll be kicking off an updated test matrix shortly ... QA:Fedora_12_Alpha_RC1_Install_Test_Results Aug 17 12:08
Oxf13 | yeah, it's nice and blank right now Aug 17 12:08
jlaska | you betcha Aug 17 12:08
jlaska | gotta start somewhere right Aug 17 12:08
jlaska | would be easier if it started full though :) Aug 17 12:08
jlaska | Oxf13: Liam was watching that ticket for updates on the alpha compose, so we might need to work out best practices for communicating drops Aug 17 12:09
jlaska | probably something we can tackle for Beta Aug 17 12:09
adamw | how's the blocker list looking? are we pretty clear now? Aug 17 12:09
jlaska | #topic F-12-Alpha readiness Aug 17 12:10
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: F-12-Alpha readiness (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 12:10
jlaska | adamw: looking good ... 2 MODIFIED bugs right now Aug 17 12:10
jlaska | bug#517475 Aug 17 12:10
buggbot | Bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=517475 medium, low, ---, pmatilai, MODIFIED, geode not i686 arch in rpmrc.in Aug 17 12:10
jlaska | Oxf13: there's some feedback in that bz that might make more sense to you Aug 17 12:10
jlaska | Oxf13: I haven't heard back from Warren on helping test that issue, however, the reporter seems to be very active ... which is a 'good thing' [tm] Aug 17 12:11
Oxf13 | what it means to me is that we'd have to change more than just that little rpm bit to get this working for geodes, and that's change I can't stand behind for ALpha Aug 17 12:11
jlaska | this was a nice to have for me, so I'm on board with that Aug 17 12:11
jlaska | the other MODIFIED issue ... bug#516941 Aug 17 12:12
buggbot | Bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=516941 medium, low, ---, kernel-maint, MODIFIED, kms broken and can cause oops without git3 upstream PAT patches Aug 17 12:12
Oxf13 | note that the RC does not have this test rpmbuild with it Aug 17 12:12
Oxf13 | that one just needs somebody with the right hardware to verify Aug 17 12:12
Oxf13 | although I think Clyde did that Aug 17 12:12
jlaska | Clyde chymned in on that bug Aug 17 12:12
jlaska | I'm actually having problems booting rawhide today with RADEON Aug 17 12:12
jlaska | but I'll follow-up in the bz Aug 17 12:13
Oxf13 | oh... I just closed the bz... Aug 17 12:13
Oxf13 | well, I suppose you can re-open Aug 17 12:13
jlaska | yeah, I'll follow-up on that ... I had to boot with 'nomodeset radeon.modeset=0' to login today Aug 17 12:14
jlaska | so ... quick round the bases from folks in the meeting on how we stand Aug 17 12:14
jlaska | #topic F-12-Alpha readiness - installer Aug 17 12:14
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: F-12-Alpha readiness - installer (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 12:14
jlaska | as of Friday (anaconda-12.14) we have good results in thanks to Liam and Rui - QA:Fedora_12_Alpha_TCRegression_Install_Test_Results Aug 17 12:15
jlaska | will retest now with anaconda-12.15 - QA:Fedora_12_Alpha_RC1_Install_Test_Results Aug 17 12:15
jlaska | folks always welcome to participate Aug 17 12:15
Oxf13 | I'm pulling down some bits to test. Aug 17 12:15
jlaska | there are a few new anaconda bugs and topics on fedora-test-list that need some resolution Aug 17 12:15
jlaska | (installer related) Aug 17 12:16
Oxf13 | I'm rather frightened of the liveCD state so I'm pulling those first Aug 17 12:16
jlaska | Based on the information from Thu/Fri test run ... we're in decent shape Aug 17 12:16
--- | pwbarnes_away is now known as pwbarnes Aug 17 12:16
jlaska | should know more once we have more data in of course Aug 17 12:16
jlaska | any other comments on the installer readiness? Aug 17 12:17
jlaska | kparal: you recently bit the bullet and installed rawhide to laptop, any issues? Aug 17 12:17
kparal | jlaska: it went surprisingly ok :) Aug 17 12:18
Oxf13 | we'll have to give the go/no-go pretty quickly Aug 17 12:18
jlaska | yeah Aug 17 12:18
jlaska | #topic F-12-Alpha readiness - xorg-x11 Aug 17 12:19
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: F-12-Alpha readiness - xorg-x11 (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 12:19
Oxf13 | like, today I guess Aug 17 12:19
jlaska | adamw: any updates on X-related issues you've been tracking? Aug 17 12:19
dpravec | jlaska: i also installed rawhide again recently and it was much better than few weeks ago Aug 17 12:19
adamw | well, there's some icky bits, but i'm not aware of anything show-stopping Aug 17 12:19
kparal | i have one issue related to multi-monitor setup which i had no time to report yet. i don't know if that relates to xorg or not Aug 17 12:19
jlaska | dpravec: awesome! Aug 17 12:19
adamw | f13 made a call not to include the x.org for fixing the display blanking bug, which is fine, we can fix that later Aug 17 12:20
dpravec | still kde is having big problems Aug 17 12:20
jlaska | kparal: perhaps more a fit'n'finish issue ... Test_Day:2009-07-07_Fit_and_Finish:Display_Configuration Aug 17 12:20
jlaska | adamw: is there a list of known gotchas for KMS (or X) related stuff on the radar for F-12-Beta already? Aug 17 12:20
adamw | there's a couple of nouveau issues - i caught someone on -devel-list or -test-list who's seeing a bug I saw with the version in rawhide, text changing colours - but that's not critical enough to break freeze for Aug 17 12:20
jlaska | I gather the blanking issue is near the top Aug 17 12:20
adamw | and on my system it's got two icky failure modes which i need to talk to ben about, but aren't concrete enough to block anything Aug 17 12:21
kparal | jlaska: does it make sense to add bug reports to old test days wiki pages? i don't know if anyone will really notice Aug 17 12:21
adamw | yes, the blanking issue is definitely being worked on and fixed but just won't make the alpha images Aug 17 12:21
adamw | kparal: it's a good thing to do, people do look at old pages (people like me :>) Aug 17 12:21
kparal | ok Aug 17 12:21
adamw | jlaska: known gotchas we will put on the Common Bugs page, i don't have a list myself at present, i don't know of any issues general enough to go on such a list, except maybe the nouveau text color change thingy Aug 17 12:22
jlaska | adamw: okay, I may need your expertise on this radeon issue I'm having w/ rawhide ... but I'll be sure to consult the Xorg/Debugging page first (Xorg/Debugging) Aug 17 12:22
adamw | yeah, first port of call would be the X and kernel logs after a failure to start X Aug 17 12:22
jlaska | right on Aug 17 12:22
jlaska | darn sailors :) Aug 17 12:23
adamw | i think in general X is pretty solid right now, especially for an alpha Aug 17 12:23
jlaska | okay ... those are the 2 big component areas I think we're plugged in on Aug 17 12:23
jlaska | I have kernel and desktop-apps as general items Aug 17 12:24
jlaska | if anyone has thoughts or concerns around those component areas? Aug 17 12:24
adamw | my feeling just from running rawhide is we're pretty solid for alpha, fwiw Aug 17 12:24
adamw | none of the big-hitter applications are broken, we've got annoying things like the notification area bug fixed, it's looking pretty decent to me Aug 17 12:24
jlaska | #topic F-12-Alpha readiness - $other Aug 17 12:25
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: F-12-Alpha readiness - $other (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 12:25
jlaska | we've got some test day coverage on live images recently (including installation) ... so that's comforting Aug 17 12:26
jlaska | adamw: yeah, I'm having that sense as well Aug 17 12:26
* | nirik is doing nightly composes now... feel free to test them and provide feedback. Aug 17 12:26
nirik | I am running into some compose issues, but there should be images there still. Aug 17 12:26
jlaska | nirik: that reminds me ... how different (package-set-wise) are those from official rel-eng live images? Aug 17 12:26
--- | stickster is now known as stickster_food Aug 17 12:26
nirik | none. They are made from spins git head. Aug 17 12:27
jlaska | awesome Aug 17 12:27
nirik | they should be the same thing. Aug 17 12:27
jlaska | nirik: let's give an official shout out to nirik for providing daily rawhide live images :) Aug 17 12:27
jlaska | >shout< Aug 17 12:27
* | kparal shouts Aug 17 12:27
adamw | shout! Aug 17 12:27
* | dpravec claps Aug 17 12:27
nirik | ha. ;) not if I can just get a newer kernel on the compose machine so I can avoid e2resize errors, everything should be golden. ;) Aug 17 12:28
nirik | s/not/now/ Aug 17 12:28
jlaska | alrighty ... let's change gears over to what's on the horizon ... Aug 17 12:28
jlaska | #topic AutoQA update from wwoods Aug 17 12:28
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: AutoQA update from wwoods (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 12:28
jlaska | wwoods: last week was another busy week it seems Aug 17 12:28
* | tk009 comes in really late Aug 17 12:29
adamw | heya Aug 17 12:29
jlaska | tk009: fashionably late! Aug 17 12:29
wwoods | yeah - the short summary is: I set up a way to pass the systemwide config to the tests Aug 17 12:29
wwoods | put some email config stuff in the system autoqa.conf Aug 17 12:29
wwoods | and taught all the tests to send email Aug 17 12:30
wwoods | so now they're all sending email to the autoqa-results list Aug 17 12:30
wwoods | https://fedorahosted.org/pipermail/autoqa-results/2009-August/thread.html Aug 17 12:30
dpravec | wwoods: I noticed those emails :) Aug 17 12:30
jlaska | holy conflicts batman Aug 17 12:30
wwoods | updated the test-writing notes a bit: Talk:Autotest Aug 17 12:30
wwoods | fixed the watcher scripts and got them running on a cron job, so the tests run automatically Aug 17 12:31
wwoods | oh and I fixed the 'conflicts' test Aug 17 12:31
jlaska | what was the issue there? Aug 17 12:31
wwoods | so now we're getting emails to the autoqa-results list every time the repos update or there's new rawhide images Aug 17 12:31
wwoods | jlaska: the code didn't exist. heh! Aug 17 12:31
wwoods | had to ask around to find a copy of it Aug 17 12:31
jlaska | wwoods: doh! Aug 17 12:31
jlaska | this is great ... https://fedorahosted.org/pipermail/autoqa-results/2009-August/000155.html Aug 17 12:32
kparal | wwoods: personally there is some interesting information on the Talk page but it never occurred to me to look for it there. maybe some more visible place would be better Aug 17 12:32
wwoods | and check it into the autoqa repo and teach the test wrapper to save the list of conflicts Aug 17 12:32
wwoods | kparal: I'll move it over when it's ready Aug 17 12:32
wwoods | that's why it says "to be integrated into main page" Aug 17 12:32
kparal | ok :) Aug 17 12:33
wwoods | I'm going to work on a first draft of the "how to write a test" document this week Aug 17 12:33
wwoods | also gotta fix the rats_install test and make rats_sanity stop running on non-rawhide repos Aug 17 12:33
kparal | the documentation would be great also from another reason. maybe i could write about it now, james? Aug 17 12:34
wwoods | oh, and I summarized the current progress for fedora planet: http://qa-rockstar.livejournal.com/8215.html Aug 17 12:34
wwoods | if you've got tests you want to write, I'd love to hear about it Aug 17 12:34
jlaska | kparal: sure what's up? Aug 17 12:34
dpravec | wwoods: there are other people who would love to plugin theirs efforts into autoqa Aug 17 12:34
wwoods | which might be what kparal is hinting at? Aug 17 12:34
jlaska | wwoods: nice post! Aug 17 12:34
dpravec | we need more documentation Aug 17 12:34
wwoods | dpravec: definitely - trying to wrote docs as fast as I figure these things out Aug 17 12:35
dpravec | if we can help somehow, wwoods, please ask us Aug 17 12:35
dpravec | we will do our best to help you Aug 17 12:35
kparal | well there appeared a new effort about providing a test package sanity tool for fedora Aug 17 12:35
wwoods | dpravec: excellent, thanks very much Aug 17 12:35
kparal | currently the effort is lead by Petr Splichal (nick psss on #fedora-qa) Aug 17 12:35
kparal | there is a short wiki page for those in redhat: https://wiki.test.redhat.com/BaseOs/Projects/FedoraTps Aug 17 12:36
jlaska | doh! he just left ... kparal we could perhaps invite Petr to our next meeting if the time is right Aug 17 12:36
dpravec | jlaska: we will ask him to come, right Aug 17 12:36
kparal | wwoods: you could be interested in that because petr expressed desire to collaborate, because his task is a subset of our task Aug 17 12:36
jlaska | kparal: looks like an internal wiki page ... we might want to get him to post his ideas to fedoraproject wiki? Aug 17 12:36
kparal | jlaska: currently the page is only for tracking existing project - which caused that he found autoqa and came to us to ask about it Aug 17 12:37
kparal | *projects Aug 17 12:37
dpravec | jlaska: sure, we will talk to him. Aug 17 12:37
jlaska | dpravec: kparal: thanks gents Aug 17 12:38
kparal | therefore hopefully petr splichal could help us write some of the test cases for autoqa Aug 17 12:38
wwoods | one of the first tasks to get this in autoqa would be to talk to the bodhi/koji maintainers to figure out a good way to get notification of new package builds/update creation Aug 17 12:38
wwoods | because autoqa does not have a post-koji-build or post-bodhi-update hook implemented yet Aug 17 12:38
wwoods | you could also run package-level tests on each new package when the *repo* updates Aug 17 12:39
kparal | i believe he can help about it too, because petr is in BaseOS QE team Aug 17 12:39
jlaska | wwoods: you got links to the 2 watcher scripts now? Aug 17 12:39
Oxf13 | wwoods: pretty sure that's going to require the message bus in the long run. Aug 17 12:40
Oxf13 | wwoods: in the short run, we can create an email address that all build notifications go do, and that email address has procmail to poke autoqa Aug 17 12:40
dgilmore | wwoods: the best way to get notification is to poll koji for new builds Aug 17 12:40
wwoods | jlaska: heh, actually no - the git trac plugin only shows the master branch Aug 17 12:41
Oxf13 | (email/procmail has the bonus that when the bus comes up, we just replace the email/procmail, but the poking of autoqa remains the same) Aug 17 12:41
wwoods | and I haven't merged the autotest rewrite yet. doh! Aug 17 12:41
jlaska | oh they hide it ... Aug 17 12:42
jlaska | http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/?p=autoqa.git;a=tree;f=hooks;h=317a0d2ea7f670ea6445f9b530e3a9a746e1a44a;hb=refs/heads/wwoods-autotest Aug 17 12:42
wwoods | http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/?p=autoqa.git;a=tree;f=hooks;hb=refs/heads/wwoods-autotest works too Aug 17 12:42
jlaska | yeah, that's clearner Aug 17 12:42
jlaska | cleaner too Aug 17 12:42
wwoods | anyway I don't want to get too deep into implementation details here Aug 17 12:43
jlaska | right right, sorry Aug 17 12:43
wwoods | but yeah, TPS for fedora is definitely a great idea and we should sketch out some goals Aug 17 12:43
wwoods | maybe set up a milestone in the autoqa trac and file some tickets with specific work items Aug 17 12:43
kparal | wwoods: i have told petr to contact you so you can talk about it Aug 17 12:44
wwoods | kparal: awesome, thanks Aug 17 12:44
dpravec | wwoods: should i put it in trac? Aug 17 12:44
wwoods | dpravec: mm, not yet - let's take some time to decide what exactly we want to accomplish Aug 17 12:45
dpravec | ok Aug 17 12:45
jlaska | that'll be a topic to track for future meetings ... but we will revisit Aug 17 12:46
jlaska | wwoods: thanks for the updates, looks like great progress! Aug 17 12:46
wwoods | I'll see what petr says and we'll try to get some specific goals written down Aug 17 12:47
wwoods | and then we'll work on a milestone/tickets and stuff Aug 17 12:47
wwoods | I know that going through all the documentation/planning, planning, planning/ticket writing is a bit.. unsexy Aug 17 12:47
wwoods | but it's reeeally helpful for longish-term stuff Aug 17 12:47
dpravec | yes Aug 17 12:47
dpravec | agreed Aug 17 12:48
jlaska | alright, changing topics ... Aug 17 12:48
jlaska | #topic Fedora Test Day updates Aug 17 12:48
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: Fedora Test Day updates (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 12:48
jlaska | just a quick run through of previous and upcoming test days Aug 17 12:48
jlaska | since both the main track and the fit'n'finish track are rockin' and rollin' Aug 17 12:49
jlaska | thanks everyone for pitching in on last weeks test days Aug 17 12:49
jlaska | * Fit'n'Finish - Peripherals Aug 17 12:49
jlaska | I didn't see a summary from mclasen on that yet, so I'm not sure how successful that event was for him Aug 17 12:50
jlaska | for the logs Aug 17 12:50
jlaska | http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2009-08-04_Fit_and_Finish:Peripherals Aug 17 12:50
adamw | i did run my script on the peripherals test day page and send the result to mclasen with a suggestion he do a report Aug 17 12:50
adamw | didn't hear back yet Aug 17 12:50
jlaska | adamw: great, thanks for being proactive there Aug 17 12:50
jlaska | adamw: I think you should package that script :) Aug 17 12:50
--- | stickster_food is now known as stickster Aug 17 12:50
jlaska | speaking of ... Aug 17 12:50
jlaska | * 2009-08-13 - NetworkManager - see the recap adamw sent - https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2009-August/msg00377.html Aug 17 12:51
adamw | it's too hideous to package :) Aug 17 12:51
jlaska | haha ... never! Aug 17 12:51
jlaska | :D Aug 17 12:51
kparal | adamw: i have seen the script on the mailing list i think. is it also somewhere on the wiki? Aug 17 12:51
adamw | anyway, for the record, it shows 10 NEW, 2 ASSIGNED, one CLOSED for the peripherals day Aug 17 12:51
adamw | kparal: not yet, but i will add it to the SOP page Aug 17 12:51
kparal | great Aug 17 12:52
jlaska | Heads up gang ... 2 upcoming Test days for this week Aug 17 12:52
jlaska | #topic Fedora Test Day - 2009-08-18 - Printing Aug 17 12:52

adamw | that's the fit 'n' finish day for the week Aug 17 12:52
jlaska | you got it Aug 17 12:53
jlaska | dpravec and kparal are running the show this week for the main track test day Aug 17 12:53
jlaska | #topic Fedora Test Day - 2009-08-20 - ABRT Aug 17 12:53
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: Fedora Test Day - 2009-08-20 - ABRT (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 12:53
poelcat | when will the liveimages for fit and finish appear? Aug 17 12:53
adamw | are you guys on top of everything? shout if you need any help with test cases, wiki page etc Aug 17 12:53
dpravec | http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2009-08-20 Aug 17 12:54
kparal | adamw: i'm just finishing building the livecd image. that should be prepared soon Aug 17 12:54
jlaska | poelcat: I'll check-in w/ mclasen on that Aug 17 12:54
jlaska | poelcat: perhaps wecan use the F-12-Alpha-RC1 images Aug 17 12:54
dpravec | we need to put newer abrt packages to our live cd images Aug 17 12:54
jlaska | #action jlaska to ping mclasen on which live images to use for Printing test day Aug 17 12:54
dpravec | and i think we will upload them tomorrow before americans will get to work Aug 17 12:54
dpravec | abrt team will hopefully push new abrt to rawhide soon enough Aug 17 12:55
dpravec | (tomorrow) Aug 17 12:55
* | nirik notes if there are no special needs, you're welcome/encouraged to use the nightly live spin composes. Aug 17 12:55
dpravec | our wiki page is still undergoing some cleanup and refactoring Aug 17 12:55
dpravec | nirik: we have special needs, for example reboot after installing abrt Aug 17 12:55
dpravec | which is hard to achieve using live cd :) Aug 17 12:56
jlaska | dpravec: would a live image w/ persistant storage help? Aug 17 12:56
nirik | yes, I know. I was mentioning it for other test day cases. Aug 17 12:56
nirik | many of them shouldn't need special packages or the like. Aug 17 12:56
dpravec | jlaska: we are also including some more stuff for testers Aug 17 12:56
dpravec | we should add a programm which will not be from fedora (any tips?) Aug 17 12:56
jlaska | dpravec: what is the program? Aug 17 12:57
kparal | also i'm putting some extra icons on the desktop. i will update the "howto create a test day livecd" guide on the wiki so it can be used also in the future Aug 17 12:57
dpravec | to test if checking signed packages will work Aug 17 12:57
dpravec | jlaska: whatever Aug 17 12:57
dpravec | a one that can be crashed using kill -11 Aug 17 12:57
dpravec | :) Aug 17 12:57
dpravec | ie, compiled C app or python application Aug 17 12:58
jlaska | dpravec: I think it's okay to post some test code on your fedorapeople page and link to it any test cases that require it Aug 17 12:58
jlaska | alternatively, if the manual steps aren't too difficult ... that's fine too Aug 17 12:58
dpravec | it can be just hello world and sleep 200 seconds Aug 17 12:58
dpravec | back to important stuff: Aug 17 12:59
dpravec | we will need you on the test day Aug 17 12:59
dpravec | please come to test it Aug 17 12:59
jlaska | dpravec: thanks! Looking forward to another focused event on ABRT (formerly known as crash-catcher) Aug 17 13:00
* | jeff_hann joins in late, sorry Aug 17 13:01
jlaska | #topic Fedora test day - 2009-08-27 - Dracut Aug 17 13:01

jlaska | jeff_hann: welcome :) Aug 17 13:01
jeff_hann | jlaska: thanks and hello folks Aug 17 13:01
jlaska | Viking-Ice: did you want to take the lead on organizing QA for the dracut event? Aug 17 13:01
jlaska | or are you looking for someone to drive this event? Aug 17 13:02
jlaska | I'll take an action to circle back with you on that Aug 17 13:03
jlaska | #action who has the ball for dracut test day? Aug 17 13:03
jlaska | alrighty ... open mic time ... Aug 17 13:04
jlaska | #topic <your topic here> Aug 17 13:04
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: <your topic here> (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 13:04
jlaska | any issues, concerns or ideas? Aug 17 13:04
dpravec | yes, i have one Aug 17 13:04
jlaska | dpravec: go for it, what's up? Aug 17 13:04
dpravec | http://www.vncrobot.com/ got recently opened using gpl2 license Aug 17 13:04
jeff_hann | what's the status of gnome-power-manager? Aug 17 13:05
dpravec | under name of t-plan robot Aug 17 13:05
dpravec | and it can be used for automated testing over VNC Aug 17 13:05
dpravec | (written in java) Aug 17 13:05
jlaska | jeff_hann: thx, we'll touch on your topic right after dpravec Aug 17 13:05
jlaska | #topic Open discussion - vncrobot Aug 17 13:05
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: Open discussion - vncrobot (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 13:05
dpravec | that means that we can use it to test virtual machines or even just gui applications Aug 17 13:05
dpravec | i am still not sure about this one, but this might be interesting Aug 17 13:06
adamw | sounds like something wwoods might like... Aug 17 13:06
dpravec | (i would love to have pythonic one...) Aug 17 13:06
jlaska | the kvm guys do something now to automation manual graphical installs in KVM Aug 17 13:07
jlaska | I'm not clear what they use, but it's probably not this Aug 17 13:07
dpravec | i wanted to make sure something important will not slip away unnoticed Aug 17 13:07
dpravec | i think testing over vnc has its big advantages Aug 17 13:07
dpravec | imagine testing bootsplash Aug 17 13:07
dpravec | or root login in gdm Aug 17 13:07
dpravec | or xdm Aug 17 13:08
jlaska | right on Aug 17 13:08
jlaska | seems like something to evaluate should any future testing demand graphical verification Aug 17 13:08
dpravec | yes thats what i am talkign about Aug 17 13:08
dpravec | people in rh are often using dogtail, but that could be hard to use in some scenarios Aug 17 13:09
dpravec | (dogtail should work in gnome and kde well) Aug 17 13:09
dpravec | wwoods: what do you think? Aug 17 13:10
jlaska | I don't have objections to specific tools/technology ... I'd just want to understand what the high-level goal if we were to focus time+energy on it Aug 17 13:10
dpravec | jlaska: i absolutely agree Aug 17 13:10
dpravec | for now i am just mapping the space Aug 17 13:10
jlaska | you probably know more about dogtail than I do! :) Aug 17 13:11
wwoods | seems like it could be really useful once we have some idea how we'd set up for a GUI functional test Aug 17 13:11
dpravec | heh, i asked one developer to show me how he is using it :) Aug 17 13:11
jlaska | dpravec: thanks for the link ... if anyone has experience with this ... please do share your ideas w/ dpravec Aug 17 13:12
jlaska | #topic Open discussion - status of gnome-power-manager Aug 17 13:12
--- | zodbot has changed the topic to: Open discussion - status of gnome-power-manager (Meeting topic: Fedora QA Meeting) Aug 17 13:12
jeff_hann | ok... Aug 17 13:12
jlaska | jeff_hann: you asked about g-p-m, was there something specific you wanted to discuss? Aug 17 13:12
jeff_hann | I found the same bug I reported a while ago still present on my lappy Aug 17 13:13
adamw | which bug is this? Aug 17 13:13
jeff_hann | HP Pavilion dv9750ed Aug 17 13:13
adamw | which bug, not which laptop :) Aug 17 13:13
jeff_hann | it fails to acknowledge the fact that the power is unplugged Aug 17 13:13
adamw | well, ok, and did you file a report on it? Aug 17 13:14
jeff_hann | only after I plug it back in and unplug again it works Aug 17 13:14
jeff_hann | well, not yet, wanted to check if anyone else klnows something about it Aug 17 13:14
jeff_hann | *knows Aug 17 13:14
jlaska | I don't see that issue reported on the previous fit'n'finish battery event - Test_Day:2009-07-21_Fit_and_Finish:Batteries_and_Suspend Aug 17 13:14
adamw | it's just a bug. systems have quirks in how they notify of ac status changes, it's not unusual. Aug 17 13:14
dpravec | jeff_hann: bug number? or bug url? Aug 17 13:14
adamw | there was a similar bug on my laptop, it got fixed. if it's happening for you in current rawhide, just file a bug Aug 17 13:15
jeff_hann | one moment please Aug 17 13:15
jeff_hann | no, F11 Aug 17 13:15
jeff_hann | with updates-testing Aug 17 13:15
adamw | oh, yeah, sorry, f11 :) Aug 17 13:16
jlaska | is there a better answer than ... can you try a live image of rawhide? Aug 17 13:17
* | jlaska thinks that might be the best option? Aug 17 13:17
adamw | no, not really, bugs like this should be fixed in stable releases Aug 17 13:17
adamw | no reason to make people try rawhide Aug 17 13:17
adamw | just file a bug with appropriate information Aug 17 13:17
jeff_hann | #512964 is related, still searching... Aug 17 13:17
jlaska | adamw: okay Aug 17 13:18
jeff_hann | I will have rawhide also installed on that machine, on a external HD Aug 17 13:18
adamw | most importantly you need to kill devkit-power-daemon then run it from a console and paste the output you get when reproducing the problem Aug 17 13:18
* | jlaska checks How_to_debug_DeviceKit_problems Aug 17 13:18
jeff_hann | #512995 Aug 17 13:18
adamw | doesn't have stuff for power atm :/ Aug 17 13:19
adamw | there looks like more to the story than that. Aug 17 13:19
adamw | otherwise it'd be broken for _all_ systems presently, and it isn't. Aug 17 13:19
adamw | either that bug only affects certain systems, or it's only in rawhide. Aug 17 13:20
adamw | so please just file a new one, on f11. Aug 17 13:20
jeff_hann | oh, and when the battery got empty, my lappy got shutdown in a second, no shutdown procedure Aug 17 13:20
jeff_hann | ok, I will do that Aug 17 13:20
dpravec | maybe it was poweroff, not shutdown? Aug 17 13:21
jeff_hann | gotta check Aug 17 13:21
jlaska | jeff_hann: thanks for raising the topic ... you can reply to the meeting minutes with the new bz (or an existing one that you find a match on) Aug 17 13:21
jeff_hann | also no lower brightness or anything else Aug 17 13:21
jlaska | alright folks, let's close it out for today Aug 17 13:21
jeff_hann | unfortunately, I have to run now, since I am late somewhere; I will report the bug ASAP Aug 17 13:22
jlaska | we can continue on #fedora-qa or as a follow-up to the minutes I'll send Aug 17 13:22
jlaska | jeff_hann: thanks! Aug 17 13:22
dpravec | jeff_hann: this works for me (brigtness, turning off) Aug 17 13:22
dpravec | it depends on hw in many cases Aug 17 13:22
* | adamw has to go for a reboot, nouveau has nerfed up again Aug 17 13:22
jeff_hann | well, we'll see Aug 17 13:22
jlaska | thanks for your time folks ... happy testing! Aug 17 13:22
jlaska | #endmeeting Aug 17 13:22
