Kevin_Kofler Yes. than Kevin_Kofler: what do you thing about that? Kevin_Kofler I think the conditionals are tolerable. Kevin_Kofler I thought the idea pretty wacky at the beginning, but it works and is much less of a mess than I expected. than ATM it's still acceptable but it could grow than we really should keep the specfiles as simple as possible Kevin_Kofler But we're not even completely sure where we're headed for F8 yet, so keeping the option of KDE 4 not as default is important. And if we manage to do it without the nonstandard prefix, this will actually mean less conditionals (and should be usable for F7 packages at kde-redhat too). Kevin_Kofler While we're waiting for rdieter (I hope he'll show up...), let's recapitulate what happened yesterday: Kevin_Kofler * we recapitulated what was already discussed in our e-mails Kevin_Kofler * Rex volunteered to update the KDE 4 plan in the wiki Kevin_Kofler * he proposed to keep 2 options open for F8: Kevin_Kofler Plan A: Stick with kde(3) as primary kde desktop, integrate kde4 libs/apps as much as possible. Kevin_Kofler Plan B: ship kde4 as primary desktop, with kde3-compat bits (ie, our main plan now). Kevin_Kofler His plan A is the safe one and the one we should assume unless we're convinced that KDE 4 is ready for being the default. Kevin_Kofler And that's supposed to be our primary conversation topic today, but we're still missing Rex. :-( than to Plan A, how do we want to integrate kde4 libs/apps if ? install kde4 in /opt/kde4 ? Kevin_Kofler That's one of the things we need to figure out. Kevin_Kofler /opt/kde4 is ugly and likely to paint us into a corner. :-( I wonder if there's a safe way to do the compat-style packaging with KDE 3 still as the default. than we cannot install kde3/kde4 at the same time if we don't want to use separate directory Kevin_Kofler We can't install all of KDE 4 that way for sure. Kevin_Kofler But the idea in plan A as I understand it is to ship only the libs as forward-compat libs and possibly some apps new in KDE 4. Kevin_Kofler I just tried pinging Rex by e-mail. than it could work, but we don't rename kde4 to kde than in my opinion it will make more sense if kde3 devel and kde4 stuff could be installed at the same time than s/kde4/kde4-devel Kevin_Kofler I'd really like that too. But how do we go at it? Kevin_Kofler Do we put the symlinks into /usr/lib/kde4 or something? The problem is that doing that most likely means patching applications too to build. Well, we could get away with patching only the CMake scripts for those which use CMake, which is probably the majority. Kevin_Kofler But if some apps are using autotools, qmake or whatever, they'll probably use custom tricks to detect KDE and need patching if we do that. * mbacovsk ist jetzt bekannt als mbacovsk_gone than yes, it's the problem Kevin_Kofler Somehow we never manage to get both you and Rex into the same meeting, this is pretty unfortunate because it hurts communication a lot. I wonder what's up with Rex today, he said yesterday that he'll be available today... * dwmw2 ist jetzt bekannt als dwmw2_gone svahl for the livecd: the config for f7 is also working for f8. ATM I have some problems with selinux that I'll try to figure out tomorrow svahl current size is about 660 megs (690 with koffice-krita) * knurd hat das Thema geändert zu: EPEL Sig meeting -- Meeting rules at http://www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Extras/Schedule/MeetingGuidelines -- Init process knurd Meeting ping dgilmore, Jeff_S, knurd, mmcgrath, nirik, stahnma, quaid and everyone interested in EPEL -- EPEL meeting in #fedora-meeting now! knurd Hi everybody; who's around? * knurd likes to remind people that the schedule and the topic list for todays meeting can be found on http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL/Schedule f13 I'm here by accident. * dgilmore is here
