March 2008
Dr. Will Cohen, Red Hat engineer and adjunct professor at NCSU, is teaching a graduate-level course at NCSU this semester (Spring 2008): CSC591W, Open Source Software Development . All of the lecture notes, and the syllabus itself, is made freely available, although licensing has not been finalized yet.
The class is going very well, according to Will; the students are being asked to engage actively in various projects, and one has already become a committer in a prominent open source project, within 8 weeks of class time.
We are also working with Dr. Laurie Williams of NCSU to figure out how to move open source development methodologies more deeply into the curriculum at NCSU.
