Summary
The Fedora Games spin offers a perfect show-case of the best games available in Fedora. The included games span several genres, from first person shooters to real-time and turn based strategy games to puzzle games. Not all the games available in Fedora are included on this spin, but trying out this spin will give you a fair impression of Fedora's abilities to run great games.
This is a great spin to hand out events where there will be people interested in test driving Fedora to see what it is like.
This spin includes a number of popular games including Battle for Wesnoth, FreeCiv, Alien Arena, Scorched 3D, Flight Gear, Tremulous, SuperTuxKart and Nethack.

Detailed Description
- The spin is intended to be based off the live desktop spin (minus wine). There is not room on a DVD for all of the games in Fedora. The intention is to try to include the best games from various genres. Included games should be playable without third party downloads. For some very large games or games that can use downloaded data, just a demo version might be included.

Benefit to Fedora
I think a games spin is more likely to get people to try it out than most other spins. As such it makes it a nice candidate for being handed out at events focusing on introducing people to Fedora. While the games are not going to be impressive for hard core gamers, there is a nice variety that is likely to have something of interest for most people. A liveusb based on the spin could be even better as that allows people to play their games on other people's computers while keeping their saved games and high score lists with them.

Dependencies
- Add a short note in the Doc Beat for Live images when the F12 beats are set up.
- Pursue getting lzma support for mksquashfs working to allow for more games to be included.
- lzma squashfs support is not going to happen in time to allow for adding more large games to the spin. Hopefully it will get into 2.6.33 and be available for F13.
- Review existing included games for suitability.
- Make short test plans for all specifically included games.
- Look at adding new games. In particular look at nexuiz, TA Spring demo, vdrift, openarena and btanks. If there is time look through all of the games and entertainment group. (colossus has been added for F12.)
- Most of the potential new games need space that isn't going to be available for F12. If I get a specific request for a small game or notice a new small game being packaged, I might add some new ones. Otherwise the only new game will be colossus.
- Possibly do RFEs to make demo packages for very large games so that we can show off a game without using too much space on the image.
- I doubt I am going to get time to make pushes for this this time around. I think it makes sense to see what happens with lzma for F13 as that would make this mostly moot.
Scope / Testing
- The plan is to pick a good set of showcase games, while still fitting on a DVD and having a reasonable desktop. Due to size constraints, some good games have been left out.
- All of the listed games need to be tested to make sure they are playable.
- Test sound and music for games that provide it.
- Test network play for games that support it.
- Getting good hardware coverage for testing 3D games may be difficult.
