Summary

Current version of gnome-do is outdated, no plans to update gnome-do are in the works. Tons of library changes are needed as well as other new package dependencies. Version in rawhide 0.4.2.0-2.fc10, but 0.5 was released in June 2008.

Usage cases/rationale, Scope and Implementation details

Many things that can be done with the current gnome-applets and gnome-panels can easily be done in gnome-do more efficiently. Gnome-do is a much more discrete way to activate, search, launch or do just about anything else. Here's a couple simple use cases.

Frank wants to instant message a buddy

  • Frank wants to IM his buddy john
  • Jim wants to listen to some Megadeth
  • Alice wishes to shutdown her computer.

Requirements

Prerequisites:

  • gnome-desktop-sharp
  • gnome-sharp
  • gnome-keyring-sharp
  • mono
  • others probably as well
