KVM Guest PMU

Summary

Virtualize a performance monitoring unit for the guest's use

Detailed Description

Provide a virtualized PMU to guests to allow better profiling using standard tools. This is targeted for the 3.3 kernel upstream and will land in Fedora 17.

Benefit to Fedora

Users with KVM guests will be able to use standard profiling tools which allow for better monitoring and debugging.

Scope

Kernel updates scheduled for mainline 3.3 kernel already in F17 Qemu userspace updates targeted for the 1.1 release already in F17

User Experience

Users will be able to run standard profiling tools requiring PMU inside of KVM guests.

None necessary.
