Description
Starting with GNOME 3.8 Fallback is dead. Long live classic mode. Built with GNOME 3 technologies. Built as a set of extensions: each can be installed individually from extensions.gnome.org, and as a whole from distribution packages. Classic mode extensions are as supported as the core experience. Can be further tweaked from the extension config app. Classic mode is: application menu, task bar, traditional look, window list and more.
Setup
If running from the Live Image, first create a password for the live user: passwd. Log out, then select the liveuser account in GDM. You should now be able to select a 'GNOME Classic' session at the password prompt.
How to test
- In GDM see the session list. Log-in and log-out back to GDM and see the list again.
- Check that choosing 'classic mode' in the gdm session chooser works as expected and is remembered
- Check that the application menu shows favorites and categories that match the GNOME shell overview
- Check that windows have minimize and maximize buttons
- Check that nautilus shows icons on the desktop
- Check that the taskbar can be used to restore minimized windows
- Check that Alt-Tab shows windows instead of applications
- Test the interaction between the taskbar, the message tray and the on-screen keyboard
Expected Results
Please file a bug for any obviously mistaken behavior during a general exploratory testing of the Classic Mode.
