Description

This test case covers configuring and using KDE IM framework.

Some of the tests require cooperation with some of your contacts. If you don't have any contacts (because you registered a new account for testing) or you don't want to bother your friends, feel free to ping me on IRC (dvratil).

For testing purposes, you can try adding these contacts to your contact list:

  • Jabber/XMPP: fedora-test-day@jabbim.cz
  • Google Talk: fedora.test.day@gmail.com
  • ICQ: 249163429
  • WLM: fedora.test.day@live.com
  • AOL: fedora.test.day@aol.com
  • GaduGadu: 45126723
  • Yahoo: fedoratestday@yahoo.com

Setup

Boot Fedora to KDE4 desktop. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet.

How to test

  1. Adding accounts
    1. Open System Settings, "Instant Messaging and VoIP"
    2. Click "Add Account" and add any of your instant messaging accounts, or register a new one.
    3. Add more accounts using various protocols
  2. Testing contact list
    1. Open contact list by clicking on "Instant Messaging Presence" icon in panel notification are in bottom left corner
    2. Try adding a new contact. If you don't know whom to add, just ping me (dvratil) on IRC
    3. Try removing a contact
    4. Try accepting and/or rejecting friend requests from some of your friends
    5. Try changing your status to Away, Busy etc., ask your contacts whether they see the changes
  3. Testing text chat
    1. Start text chat with some of your contact.
    2. Send text messages, if your or the other contact's language has special characters make sure both sides see them correctly
  4. Testing file transfer
    1. Send a file to any of your contacts, check whether the file is transferred correctly
    2. Have any of your contacts send you a file. Check whether you can accept and reject the file transfer
  5. Testing audio and video calls
    1. Try making an audio or video call with some of your contacts
  6. Testing log viewer
    1. After chatting with some of your contacts, open log viewer and check whether all conversations are correctly logged

Expected Results

  1. Adding accounts
    1. IM accounts configuration works
  2. Testing contact list
    1. You should see all your contacts
    2. Adding a new contact should work
    3. Removing a contact should work
    4. Accepting and rejecting friend requests should work
  3. Testing text chat
    1. You should be able to send and receive text messages
    2. Text messages should have correct encoding and should be displayed correctly.
  4. Testing file transfer
    1. You should be able to send files
    2. You should be able to accept and reject incomming file transfers
  5. Testing audio and video calls
    1. You should be able to call your contacts that support calls
    2. You should be able to receive calls from your contacts
  6. Testing log viewer
    1. You should have logs of all your current conversations available and correctly displayed
