In questa pagina sono riportati una varietà di dati statistici sull'uso di Fedora, in quanto il Fedora Project ritiene che le misure (effettuate dal team Infrastructure), siano un importante strumento di analisi.

Dati statistici su Fedora 40
Poichè i dati vengono aggiornati con regolarità, per la loro visualizzazione si prega di fare riferimento alla english version di questa pagina. Di seguito si riportano solo alcune note sul metodo usato per la raccolta, così come espresse nella pagina americana.
A differenza del metodo usato nelle precedenti versioni (Fedora 9 - 12) che lasciava qualche dubbio sull'effettivo conteggio di tutti i numeri IP unici, l'attuale metodo è incrementale, ed anche se più lento, dovrebbe essere più accurato.
Allo stato auttuale, non esiste ancora un metodo effettivo per determinare il numero totale di utenti Linux, o anche solo il numero di utenti che usano una qualsiasi distribuzione Linux, a meno che non abbia integrato un sistema di registrazione per utente. Le persone che affermano il contrario, o sono male informate, o barano o tentano di promuovere commercialmente la loro distribuzione.
I numeri delle tabelle non rappresentano il numero totale degli utenti Fedora. Si conteggiano gli indirizzi IP poichè sono l'unica grandezza fisica effettivamente misurabile. I numeri diffusi dagli OEM, la popolarità di certe applicazioni, e tutte le altre stime nel settore, hanno tutti dei fattori di errore intrinseci. Senza una caratterisitica di vendita o un processo di registrazione 1:1, il conteggio degli utenti rimane soggetto a gravi errori di stima. La sezione in basso, Accuratezza delle metriche, approfondisce il problema legato al conteggio degli indirizzi IP.
Quando qualcuno dice di aver stimato un certo numero di utenti, occorre chiedersi:
- Precisamente, come si è arrivati a questo numero?
- Per Fedora la risposta si trova in questa pagina.
- Dove si trovano i dati, in modo da poterli elaborare per riprodurre i risultati?
- In Fedora, per ottenere i dati grezzi, occorre avere accesso ai nostri host: il team Infrastructure, che si interessa di elaborare i dati è aperto a chiunque voglia partecipare nel loro lavoro.
Accuratezza delle metriche
The numbers above, for yum, represent unique IP addresses that reach our update server, not simply downloads. We believe it is reasonable to equate a "new IP address checking in" with "a new installation of Fedora", with the following caveats:
- Users who have dynamic IP addresses will likely be counted multiple times, which inflates the number by some amount.
- Users who are behind NAT or corporate proxies will not be counted at all.
The anecdotal evidence that we receive from different groups, companies, and organizations suggests that group (2) is significantly larger than group (1). As such, we believe that the true numbers in the field are higher than the numbers on this page.
