Revision as of 07:26, 7 May 2009

See Test_Day:2009-05-07_Virtualization.

This test area is concerned with testing that different OSes install successfully as a KVM guest on a Fedora host.

Prerequisites

Tests

Install some of the following guest OSes:

  1. Fedora 9
  2. Fedora 10
  3. Fedora 11
  4. RHEL or CentOS 4
  5. RHEL or CentOS 5
  6. Windows XP
  7. Windows 2K3
  8. Windows Vista
  9. Windows 7 preview
  10. Debian 5
  11. Solaris/OpenSolaris
  12. FreeBSD
  13. SuSE/OpenSuSE

using virt-manager and/or virt-install.

If possible, use different install methods - e.g. DVD ISO, http, nfs etc. installs for Fedora/RHEL.

Results

If you have problems with any of the tests, file a bug report in bugzilla.

Once you have completed an install, add its details to the tables below.

General comments

Put here what you experienced in general

Tester Comment
Rainer Koenig When installing from a phsical CD/DVD in Virtual Machine Manager everything works fine. But the connection to the CD/DVD media is stored for the virtual machine, so if the media is removed you will experience an error on the next attempt to start this virtual machine. Solution: "Details" tab of that machine window and disconnect the CD drive here. See 473154
Rainer Koenig Strange effect observed, unfortunately only once: A guest installation seemed to hang and I tried to kill it with "Shutdown/Force off". The effect was that not only this guest was killed but all running guests on that host. So far not reproducable in my lab.
