[[Category:Test Days]] [[Category:Fedora 15 Test Days]]

Revision as of 06:47, 26 December 2014

DATE TIME WHERE
Wed Feb 23, 2011 ALL DAY #fedora-test-day webchat
Note.png
Arriving after the date above?
If you come to this page after the test day is completed, your testing of Radeon is still valuable, and you can use the information on this page to test Radeon with your graphics card and provide feedback. If you are visiting after the release of Fedora 15, please wait for the next Radeon test day.

What to test?

Today's Fedora Test Day will focus on the radeon driver for ATI/AMD Radeon graphics cards.

If you come to this page after the test day is completed, your testing is still valuable, and you can use the information on this page to test with your graphics card and provide feedback.

Who's available

The following cast of characters will be available for testing, workarounds, bug fixes, and general discussion...

What's needed to test

  • An ATI Radeon (or FireGL) graphics adapter. To confirm whether you have supporting hardware, run the following command under root:
/sbin/lspci -d 1002: | grep -iq VGA && echo "Join Radeon Fedora Test Day" || echo "Sorry, no Radeon graphics hardware found."
  • An updated Fedora 40 pre-release, or the special live image (see below)
  • Your hardware profile uploaded to Smolt according to these instructions
Warning.png
Shell support broken on later cards
All cards of the R600 generation and later - that is, Radeon HD 2xxx and later - are currently believed to be encountering a bug which causes Mutter (the GNOME 3 window manager) to crash when trying to load GNOME Shell in the 32-bit image - Bugzilla: #677842. If you encounter this crash, mark the GNOME 3 start test as fail, link to that bug report, and CC yourself on the report if you would like to follow progress on a fix. Then please test with the 64-bit image, which should work.

How to test?

Update your machine

If you're running Fedora 40, make sure you have all the current updates for it installed, using the update manager. Or you can use a live image:

Live image

Optionally, you may download a non-destructive Fedora 40 live image for your architecture. Tips on using a live image are available at FedoraLiveCD.

Architecture SHA256SUM
i686 4553b73f8fab46fbb85384974decc7f9595e5c7af6df76e303cef5e62a76e07f
x86_64 e59d1886f7b766011b89d88369d09a4dd46bd7ba8a25664e9de0430d0f8725d7

Testing

Follow each of these test cases:

Multihead test case:

You will need two or more monitors to perform the multihead test.

Optional extended OpenGL test cases (some of these will require you to at least move around in games):

These will provide more detailed testing of 3D functionality. Please file bugs for any failures you find if running these tests.

Report your results

If you have problems with any of the tests, report a bug to Bugzilla usually for the component xorg-x11-drv-ati. If you are unsure about exactly how to file the report, just ask on IRC and we will help you. Follow the instructions on this page to ensure you include sufficient information in the report. Once you have completed the tests, add your results to the Results table below, following the example results from Example user as a template. The first column should be your name with a link to your User page in the Wiki if you have one, and the second should be a link to your Smolt hardware profile (see above for a link with instructions on submitting your hardware profile to Smolt). For each test case, use the result template to enter your result, as shown in the example result line. If you could not perform one test (for example, you cannot perform the more advanced tests because the basic one fails, or you cannot perform the multihead test as you have only one display), enter the word N/A. In the comments column, you can enter the model name and PCI device ID (vendor ID is usually 1002) of your card, if you know it - you can usually find this information in the output of the command lspci -nn.

Long comments

  1. Resolution detected as 800x600. System - system settings - display - mirror display is setted on by default. While it setted on I can not change resolution
  2. Disabling/Enabling second monitor is not automatic when it is Disconnected/Connected. xrandr command or display properties must be started for detecting this change.
  3. After resume, I get an SELinux alert: 'The source process /sbin/consoletype Attempted this access: read On this file: /var/log/pm-suspend.log
  4. HDMI hotplug (after log in) doesn't work at all; if HDMI is connected before system starts, then everything works fine, every display supports its native resolution
  5. 01:00.0 [0300]: ATI RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] [1002:5960] (rev 01) 01:00.1 [0380]: ATI RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (Secondary) [1002:5940] (rev 01) Dual head did work in Fedora 13.
  6. The default boot always gets stuck immediately. 'Boot Basic Video' succeeds. Not sure how to report the rest of these tests as testcases assume no 'nomodeset'; 'Boot Basic Video' uses 'nomodeset'.
  7. The switch worked but when i log out the 2nd user, it fall back into the 1st user session and not gdm !! Moreover, the insight of the overlay window show 3 same nautilus thumbnails instead of the correct thumbnails.
  8. xrardr output [9]. Login screen chose correct screen as primary, but the session did not. Gnome 3's config tool did not provide a means to fix this. Physically unplugging the display was required for desired behavior.
  9. pulseaudio does not work correctly (muted) when I switch from graphical desktop to another one. If I switch from graphical desktop to any text mode console and then to another graphical desktop, then pulseaudio works rightly.
  10. First, "System menu/Suspend..." opens Shutdown dialog, second, about 10 seconds after pm-suspend system does power-off. After system powered-on display stays in standby mode. Only hard reset helps me.
  11. totem ran fine; gstreamer-properties fails with "X Window System (X11/XShm/Xv): Could not initialise Xv output"; also gstreamer-properties dumps core if accidentally run as root instead of a normal user
  12. when intel&radeon cards availibl livecd doesn't boot photo. When intel card disabled in BIOS livecd boot sucsesfully
  13. First boot I did from live CD resulted in the GNOME panel fallback. 'gnome-shell --replace' to get to the shell worked. Second boot logged in into gnome-shell ok.
  14. Gnome Shell does't start, fallback to gnome-panel. Log-out - log-in does't help. Some elements of UI have the wrong color.screenshot Very similar to #679912
  15. fallback to mis-themed gnome-panel. Running 'gnome-shell --replace' ends with a signal 11. Bug #679912
  16. initial startx and logout back to console work fine. Second startx shows the background, flashing a black horizontal bar about once a second, and occasionally a mutter abrt notification. Switching back to console shows "Shell killed with signal 11".
  17. soon after starting, test blocks are printed diagonally across the screen. When the run is complete the stride is wrong, so I can tell I have a prompt, but not read any of the output.
  18. Configurations and environment worked fine. However, plug/unplug events didn't seem to be noticed until xrandr was run or gnome-settings display was launched or 'detect monitors' clicked.
  19. Graphics resumed without a problem. As with dpms, external monitor did not sleep. After resume any program (terminal, xulrunner) trying to access the network would crash.
  20. needed to pass video=1280x1024 to kernel commandline, otherwise the monitor beeps and flickers
  21. fonts strange, selected text is black on black as are some scrollbars
  22. Works well, synch at 60 FPS, but in some case raises up to 100+ FPS ! This occurs when I put glxgears window in the corner like in this screenshot. When the window stays in the corner, the FPS falls again at 60 FPS on the next '5 seconds'.
    • totem failed to start:
      • (totem:2773): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_bin_get_child: assertion `GTK_IS_BIN (bin)' failed
      • totem: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/libtotem.so.0: undefined symbol: peas_engine_enable_loader
    • Trying to play the Firefox video in Firefox worked, but no sound. Trying to configure sound, control-center crashed.
  23. Didn't start mutter, probably cause I have a 4890. After the first login, the fallback didn't work when I was trying to login without rebooting.
  24. After startx the desktop with the backgroundimage and upper panel appears. After some seconds the desktop freezes. Switch to fallback-mode doesn't work.
  25. a few demos miss their shader programs so I was not able to run the ones with shader, can not blame driver for this , here are the failures
    • Your hardware probably doesn't support framebuffer overlay planes.
    • Sorry, GL_EXT_paletted_texture not supported
    • vertexrate made a kernel panic!
    • fbo_firecube: Error: unable to get usable FBO combination!
    • gloss: show only empty black window
    • multiarb: every output to background terminal cause lag of video output for a fraction of second
    • reflect: outputing other from color buffers drops fps down to 9fps
