[[Category:Fedora 15 Test Days]]

Latest revision as of 19:46, 26 June 2015

DATE TIME WHERE
Thu Feb 24, 2011 All day #fedora-test-day) webchat

What to test?[edit]

Today's Fedora Test Day will focus on the Intel graphics card driver.

If you come to this page after the test day is completed, your testing is still valuable, and you can use the information on this page to test with your graphics card and provide feedback.

Who's available[edit]

The following cast of characters will be available for testing, workarounds, bug fixes, and general discussion...

What's needed to test[edit]

How to test?[edit]

Update your machine[edit]

If you're running Fedora 40, make sure you have all the current updates for it installed, using the update manager. Or you can use a live image:

Live image[edit]

Optionally, you may download a non-destructive Fedora 40 live image for your architecture. Tips on using a live image are available at FedoraLiveCD.

Architecture SHA256SUM
i686 4553b73f8fab46fbb85384974decc7f9595e5c7af6df76e303cef5e62a76e07f
x86_64 e59d1886f7b766011b89d88369d09a4dd46bd7ba8a25664e9de0430d0f8725d7

Testing[edit]

Follow each of these test cases:

Multihead test case:

You will need two or more monitors to perform the multihead test.

Optional extended OpenGL test cases (some of these will require you to at least move around in games):

These will provide more detailed testing of 3D functionality. Please file bugs for any failures you find if running these tests.

Report your results[edit]

If you have problems with any of the tests, report a bug to Bugzilla usually for the component xorg-x11-drv-intel. If you are unsure about exactly how to file the report, just ask on IRC and we will help you. Follow the instructions on this page to ensure you include sufficient information in the report. Once you have completed the tests, add your results to the Results table below, following the example results as a template. The first column should be your name with a link to your User page in the Wiki if you have one, and the second should be a link to your Smolt hardware profile (see above for a link with instructions on submitting your hardware profile to Smolt). For each test case, use the result template to enter your result, as shown in the example result line. If you could not perform one test (for example, you cannot perform the more advanced tests because the basic one fails, or you cannot perform the multihead test as you have only one display), enter the word N/A. In the comments column, you can enter the model name and PCI device ID (vendor ID is usually 8086) of your card, if you know it - you can usually find this information in the output of the command lspci -nn.

Long comments[edit]

  1. Gnome 3 shell: First connection to second monitor is "OK" but very slow (mutter 95% CPU). After disconnecting it is OK and resolutions are switched automatic. But second connection killed Gnome3 session.
  2. "Unable to start new display. The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any .service files" on attempting to switch user from gnome-shell. Suspect this is not however a driver bug?
  3. In fullscreen the time slider wasn't available, only blinked a few times just to disappear again plus some strange effects on the Desktop even after totem segfaulted (reported using that crash applet). All that without compositing.
  4. gnome spans both monitors, but I cannot disable one of them; it is instantly reenabled, related bugreport
  5. glxgears started fine at first, but I left it running for more than an hour, and eventually my LiveCD boot ran out of memory (read-only file system) and the gears quit spinning; I wonder if there is a resource leak or log file that overflows the livecd file system
  6. pm-suspend took everything down, and on recovery, glxgears was still running; but I was running on LiveCD, and something about recovery made it so that all attempts to spawn new process failed with a segfault; not sure if it was an issue with livecd limitations, so I'm not opening a BZ
  7. With glxgears, terminal, and ff running, can sometimes get stray graphics when moving the mouse around on gnome shell's overview screen. This also sometimes occurs with glxgears running and opening the shutdown dialog.
  8. Ran pm-suspend. First time succeeded. Second time hung the graphics. Mouse moves, windows are not interactive, ctrl-alt-f2 kills mouse, ctrl-alt-f* doesn't do anything from that point.
  9. Double FAIL! BZ639057 still present from F14, plus BZ680333. Along with BZ680325 and suspend issues, this makes F15 completely unusable for this laptop
  10. Closed laptop lid, system suspended; after about five minutes, opened lid and system resumed nicely. However, about ten minutes later the system slowly died with symptoms similar to Alex Williamson's, above. Could also be because I left glxgears running in each of the two users I had switched to, following Eric Blake's theory of a resource leak.
  11. It's an Nvidia Optimus laptop and the second screen connected to hdmi port is useless. xrandr outputs: LVDS1 connected ... VGA1 disconnected HDMI1 disconnected DP1 disconnected
  12. Sometimes the window-manager crashed. 2 times when it crashed the upper panel and alle windows disappears. Another time only the frameborders disappears, but the windows stay on desktop.
  13. The rotation is ok. But when I choose 180 degree rotation (and only with 180) and switches back to normal view, the normal view gets darker. The display light on the laptop was set to a darker value. With the brightness keys I can set it to the normal value.
  14. This test was really fast over, but no error occured. The time-command says:
    real 0m57.643s
    user 0m0.705s
    sys 0m0.134s
    File:Rolle 2011-02-26 Renderchecklog.gz
  15. Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
    ...
    300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.987 FPS
    298 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.553 FPS
    298 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.543 FPS
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0"
after 4936 requests (4936 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
  16. The second monitor is working and also the plug'n'play is working. The only thing is, when I locate the second monitor under the first one, on the second monitor on the upper side is a "gradient"-artefact, see File:Rolle 2011-02-26 Multihead.png.gz
    File:Rolle 2011-02-26.LaptopFujitsu.xrandr.txt.gz
  17. This test was really fast over, but no error occured. The time-command says approx. 1:50 min
    File:Rolle 2011-03-01.EeePC.renderchecklog.gz
  18. The plug'n'play-event is functional. In 'display" both monitors appears correctly. Also the unplug is functional. But when I plugin the second monitor the desktop gets veeery slow. Every mouseclick executes after some seconds. I can't setup a new resolution. After I click 'apply' no change happens (or I must wait much longer?). When I play longer with plug'n'play it crashed randomly. One time the desktop crashed and the login screen appears. When I login now the fallback-mode is on.
    File:Rolle 2011-03-01.EeePC.xrandr.txt.gz
  19. "mirror" mode only recognizes only 800x600 and 1024x768, but that isn't native resolution of any connected display and both displays have 16:9 aspect ratio
  20. As Liveuser it works.
As root-User it fails with the following shell-output:
    root@localhost mesa]# avogadro
    ..
    GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
