Can't make the date?
If you come to this page before or after the test day is completed, your testing is still valuable, and you can use the information on this page to test, file any bugs you find at Bugzilla, and add your results to the results section. If this page is more than a month old when you arrive here, please check the current schedule and see if a similar but more recent Test Day is planned or has already happened.

What to test?

Today's instalment of Fedora Test Day will focus on Upgrade Test Day

Who's available

The following cast of characters will be available testing, workarounds, bug fixes, and general discussion. In case of problem related to test day organization/wiki/whatever, please reach out to sumantrom.

Prerequisite for Test Day

  • A system (real or virtual) you can install Fedora too, and not mind if it breaks
  • A Fedora 29 image: download Workstation or Server or KDE and other spins
  • For Previous Test Cases: download Fedora 28
  • Make sure to use the latest version of dnf for F28 installed
  • For gnome-software upgrade tests, make sure you have gnome-software-3.28.2-4.fc28 if you are testing F28 to F30 upgrades

How to test?

Run the tests

Visit the result page and click on the column title links to see the tests that need to be run: most column titles are links to a specific test case. Follow the instructions there, then enter your results by clicking the Enter result button for the test.

Reporting bugs

If you have problems with any of the tests, report a bug to Bugzilla usually for the component dnf. If you are unsure about exactly how to file the report or what other information to include, just ask on IRC and we will help you.

Anaconda will display an error dialog allowing you to report the problem to Bugzilla. This will also automatically attach logs, error message and traceback to the report -- this way of reporting bugs is preferred.

  1. I have eventually found that my system is affected by an issue looking similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1652806. The system is most probably experiencing the issue because it was initially installed as FC21. After running grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg the boot entries disappeared completely and system could start only after manually entering linux and initrd commands in grub shell. File /boot/grub2/i386-pc/increment.mod did not exist. Command grub2-install /dev/sda fixed the issue.
  2. Issue reported before was caused by disabling of the weak dependencies. Credits and huge thanks to jmracek for spotting that and helping me on Saturday morning. The whole offline upgrade process passed without any issue, I have inspected also dnf system-upgrade log logfile. However, another issue occurred - a newly installed FC30 kernel was not available for booting, only the old FC28 kernels. The package kernel-5.0.9-301 was installed, but content of /boot/grub2/grub.cfg was not updated. As I was not able to reproduce the issue with fresh installation of FC28 in VM, I am not going to create a Bugzilla bug.
  3. Download and transaction check/test went fine, but during the offline upgrade phase, after reboot invoked by: dnf system-upgrade reboot I got invalid checksum reported for some packages and the upgrade failed. I retried, after cleaning up with dnf system-upgrade clean and dnf clean all, with the same result. I do not know where to find the upgrade log to post it into Bugzilla, so I have next to nothing for creating a bug. The screen with the errors disappeared in a few seconds, as the normal boot proceeded after upgrade failure.

  1. I met with three issues and was able to workaround all of them. 1. newt package required adding --best --allowerasing options to dnf command line. 2. I had to manually add FC30 GPG key. 3. 1. I have upgraded on April 22, 2019. I have multiple desktop environments installed on this host. I mostly use KDE, sometimes Gnome, rarely i3 and mate. I had to remove *fedora-release-matecompiz* package, as transaction test reported a conflict. I did it with the next command and then the upgrade passed smoothly: sudo dnf remove fedora-release-matecompiz

  1. Error-ed on the first pass before downloading due to RPM Fusion F29 repos being enabled. Disabling them solved the problem. About 20 problems were printed related to module systems not pointing to the right locations, but they don't seem to have affected anything (I also don't have any module streams activated). Everything seems to be working smoothly so far.
