Step by step tutorial for installing KDE and removing Gnome:

  1. log in as root via su
  2. yum install @kde-desktop system-switch-displaymanager kdm
  3. system-switch-displaymanager kdm
  4. reboot your machine
  5. log in and be sure to choose KDE as session
  6. if you want to remove GNOME continue, otherwise you're done now
  7. you can now yum remove @gnome-desktop . Watch out that this doesn't remove any programs you want to keep!
  8. you should be done now
