Finnish Linux Users Group, [http://ubuntu-fi.org/ Ubuntu Finland] and a few of us representatives from other distributions are arranging a Linux showcase desk at the [http://www.assembly.org/summer09/ Assembly 2009] demo party in Helsinki in 6.-9. of August 2009. I should be there, I hope we can get some Fedora CDs to hand out as well.

I'm a relatively new EPEL packager (since about April 2009), Moin is the only package I maintain in EPEL. If you want to maintain some of my other Fedora packages, feel free to do so, but please add me as a co-maintainer.
I used to be the moin maintainer on EPEL for a few months, because nobody else wanted the package. However, I didn't really get much work done on the packages, since I don't use any EL distributions myself, and I decided to orphan the package. At this point I don't have any EPEL packages and I'm not that interested in having any, either. If you'd like to maintain one of my Fedora packages in EPEL, feel free to do so, but please add me as a co-maintainer so I'll know about the changes to the packages.

I have translated the [http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes/ Release Notes] for Fedora 7 and 8 into Finnish. I plan to keep doing the translations for upcoming releases as well. Any help is greatly appreciated :) If I have the time, I may also update the translations for already released versions.

Ville-Pekka Vainio

I'm a Fedora user since FC2, a Finnish Fedora translator, the team leader for the Finnish translation team, a Fedora RPM package maintainer, a Fedora Ambassador for Finland and I'm also interested in FOSS hacking. I have an M.Sc. in Computer Science. I live in Helsinki, Finland.

Finnish translation

The wiki page for the Finnish translation team.

I can sponsor new contributors to the cvsl10n group in the Fedora Account System. Make sure you've sent an introduction mail to the fedora-trans-list mailing list before asking for sponsorship.

Ambassador

I've started as a Fedora Ambassador for Finland in July 2009. This whole thing is quite new to me still and as of now, I don't have any Fedora CDs or anything to hand out. If you're interested in organizing a Fedora event or a general free/open source software event in the greater Helsinki area, drop me an email.

I often attend the Linux theme evenings (teemaillat) organized by the Finnish Linux User Group (I'm a member of FLUG too). I sometimes attend the Free Thursday events as well, but it seems I've just had bad luck with timing this year and haven't been able to attend as many events as I would've liked to.

I am the administrator of a Finnish Fedora forum, which is run as a sub-forum of the linux.fi discussion forums. Leaving a message on that forum is a good way of getting community support in Finnish for using Fedora.

Packages

Packages that I maintain:

The packages with "voikko" in the name provide Finnish spell checking, hyphenation and grammar checking. The upstream for those is the Voikko project. I also co-maintain some other VDR packages with Ville Skyttä.

EPEL

I used to be the moin maintainer on EPEL for a few months, because nobody else wanted the package. However, I didn't really get much work done on the packages, since I don't use any EL distributions myself, and I decided to orphan the package. At this point I don't have any EPEL packages and I'm not that interested in having any, either. If you'd like to maintain one of my Fedora packages in EPEL, feel free to do so, but please add me as a co-maintainer so I'll know about the changes to the packages.

Docs translation

I have translated the Release Notes for Fedora 7 and 8 into Finnish. Translating the Release Notes is quite a big task and I haven't had the time for it during the more recent releases of Fedora, thus I've concentrated on translating the smaller documents such as the Readmes.
