Introduction

This is a project to redesign http://get.fedoraproject.org and http://spins.fedoraproject.org that is being undertaken during the F12 release cycle by the Websites team with assistance from Design and Infrastructure.

Goals

Redesign the get.fedoraproject.org and spins.fedoraproject.org sites in a way that fits the requirements. We will determine metrics for improvement during the feedback-gathering phases, but in general, we want more Fedora contributors, and our strategy for this is getting more Fedora users.

The Board's goals in the Website redesign are[1]:

  • To make Fedora fresh, attractive, and inclusive for potential participants and contributors
  • To more effectively promote a single instance of Fedora that satisfies the computing needs of the average person
  • To provide an improved showcase opportunity for Fedora spins created by the community

History

Schedule

Requirements gathering

See Website redesign 2009 requirements for get.fedoraproject.org and spins.fedoraproject.org design requirements.

First design mockups

Owner: Mo Duffy

Old

Feedback

There was an extended feedback thread on the fedora-advisory-board list, discussing both pages.

The 2009-08-27 Board meeting was devoted to design feedback, also on both pages.

Out of scope, but related: a design discussion on the main Fedora Project webpage that brings up many of the same design goals.

Get.fp.o feedback

This task is owned by Mo Duffy.

See the survey, results, and discussion.

Spins.fp.o feedback

This task is owned by Mo Duffy.

Mo's blog has some discussion on the first proposed spins design.

Final design mockups

This task is owned by Mo Duffy.

Convert to html

This task is owned by Hiemanshu Sharma.

Sijis Aviles is driving heavily in the conversion of the get.fp.o site. Completion now expected for that site for F13 GA.

The main fedoraproject.org site implementation will start post-F13 GA.

Get on infrastructure

This task is owned by Ricky Zhou.
