DejaVu is one of the most popular free and open-source derivatives of the Bitstream Vera font family.
Thanks to the release of Bitstream Vera with a free and open-source license in April 2003, it has been possible for font designers to innovate by increasing the language coverage to support more Latin-based languages, Cyrillic, Greek and other scripts. For a list of such innovative font projects based on Bitstream Vera, see the Bitstream Vera derivatives list .
The Fedora default font changed to DejaVu LGC at Fedora Core 6 release time. DejaVu LGC is a DejaVu derivative with only Latin, Greek and Cyrillic glyphs.
Starting from the Fedora 9 release, DejaVu replaces Dejavu LGC as default Fedora font. DejaVu LGC is now built as a DejaVu subpackage.
