Hummingbird Special Interest Group

Hummingbird is a container-native, rolling-release variant targeting open source and cloud native builders who value things like CI/CD, near zero CVEs, minimal size, distroless images (distributions still matter!!!), etc. It ships a wide variaty of language runtimes, build toolchains, and distroless OCI container images built from Fedora sources via the Hummingbird factory pipeline. This SIG governs the Hummingbird work, as we work toward contribution into the Fedora project (over time).

Project Hummingbird was announced at Red Hat Summit 2026

SIG Responsibilities

  • Own the scope and content set for Hummingbird
  • Maintain the Hummingbird factory build pipeline and OCI image publishing
  • Coordinate ARK (Always-Ready Kernel) integration for the edition
  • Drive Fedora infrastructure work (ticket system, SIG, Forgejo, etc)
  • Work with Fedora packagers to resolve build and compose issues
  • Define upgrade and production guidance for Hummingbird users
  • Manage the relationship with Red Hat
