Fedora 8 Test 3 Spins

Fedora includes several different spins, which are variations of Fedora built from a specific set of software packages. Each spin has a combination of software to meet the requirements of a specific kind of end user. In addition to a very small boot.iso image for network installation, users have the following spin choices:

Fedora 8 DVD

The Fedora 8 install DVD is an installable DVD suited to installing any of the desktop environments included within Fedora (GNOME, KDE or XFCE) as well as a full set of servers. It is available for the x86, x86_64, ppc and ppc64 architectures.

The Fedora 8 DVD is available for download both via FTP/HTTP at sites listed at http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/publiclist/Fedora/7.92/ as well as via bittorrent from http://torrent.fedoraproject.org.

Fedora 8 Live

The Fedora 8 Live image is an installable GNOME desktop image and is available for x86, x86_64 and ppc32 systems. The x86 image is sized to fit on a CD while the other images are larger and suited for a DVD, larger format CDs or a USB stick. A full set of productivity applications is available for use on the live image. This is a great image to choose for users new to Fedora or Linux in general.

Fedora 8 KDE Live

The Fedora 8 KDE Live image is an installable KDE desktop image available for x86 and x86_64 systems. The x86 image is sized to fit on a CD while the other images are larger and suited for a DVD, larger format CDs or a USB stick. It is intended to provide an experience similar to that of the Fedora 8 Live images but using the KDE Desktop Environment as opposed to GNOME.

Fedora 8 Developer Live

The Fedora 8 Developer Live image is an installable GNOME desktop image including a full development environment including all of the tools needed to develop software under Linux including the Eclipse IDE framework. This image is sized to fit on either a DVD or a USB stick. Fedora 8 Electronic Lab (FEL)

The Fedora Electronic Lab Live image is intended to provide a full set of tools suitable for users who are involved in the Micro-Nano Electronic Engineering field. It is an installable image available for x86 systems and is very suitable for students and hobbyists.
