LIRC Testing[edit]

1. Can lirc talk to your device?

# modprobe lirc_foo (usb-based devices should auto-load, others likely require
manual loading)
# dmesg | tail -n 30
# ll /dev/lirc*
# yum install lirc lirc-remotes
# cp /usr/share/lirc-remotes/<your remote>/lircd.conf.<your remote>
# service lirc start
# irw
<press buttons on remote, irw should tell you what buttons it sees pressed>

2. Does gnome-lirc-properties work?

  • First clean-up any system configuration ...
    • Shut off lircd
      # service lirc stop
    • Remove any configuration file:
       rm /etc/lircd.conf
  • Now, start gnome-lirc-properties and play

3. Does rhythmbox work with the remote?
