Better known as Vint, this pal is really weird about introductions and has to type in third person in this very first paragraph. Please don't mind him. "Vint" part initially refers to his favorite recurring character in DuckTales and Donald Duck universe Gyro Gearloose, localized in Russian dub as "Винт", but happily coincides with Internet pioneer Vint Cerf.

About Me

My full name is Vint Prox, made up from my Internet persona by a nickname "vintprox". I prefer that mention would be made to it instead of my real name (undisclosed here). Otherwise, someone may find themselves in the search results mixed with completely different people. There are about 10+ citizens total with my real name in the mother country and abroad. I even changed my git name, because it's that confusing to have IMDb-registered actor or musician I know nothing of to attach my commits on.

Enough rambling, let's get down to who I am. There are few figurative hats that I wear:

  • Video Editor
  • Computer Graphics Artist
  • Frontend Mentor
  • FOSS Enthusiast

I live in Russia all my life. I'm in the vicinity of Moscow since graduating technical college. Still searching for a job that does not conflict with my aspirations for keeping in touch with events around free and open source software. 😉

In lieu of a proper blog, I'm mostly microblogging on Mastodon. You can find me in some Fedora Matrix rooms, as well.

Involvement with Fedora Project

Choice of Linux Distro

I was receiving rumors about Fedora not earlier than 2019. Annoyances in Windows have led me to dual-boot with Ubuntu. Then I did my first distro hop to Manjaro with XFCE. During that time, I was investigating from the shadows what it was like to use something more stable and ever-green at the same time, hence setting my sights on Fedora Workstation spin with desktop environment from KDE.

In November 2023, I finally ditched Windows and made my second distro hop to Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop. Having a free and open source software from desktop down to boot level with provision of the community entity such as FESCo secures a deserved spot for system to be recommended as a daily driver for designers, developers and fellow creators. The community itself is thriving and nice! 💙

Creative Freedom Summit

Earlier that year, some news about Creative Freedom Summit 2023 starting shortly have made it through to my Mastodon feed, with Fedora Project claiming that 100+ people have already joined the event's Matrix room.[1] This was the first ever FOSS conference I visited and, in retrospective, it had left a better impression on me than FOSDEM and LibrePlanet, even though I couldn't make it most of the time in schedule.

Meanwhile, I was really into video editing. CFS has presented a good opportunity to apply my skills with Kdenlive on something more educational than my previous works. Upon a call to help with session videos[2], I quickly scramed the material around a few sessions I had put on rewatch and grew interested in the talk given by Ryan Gorley "Freelancing with Free Software". It resulted in a demonstrational Kdenlive project and an edited video with far less stutters than there were before.

I attended Creative Freedom Summit 2024 in a better capacity, not holding back an excitement from the amount of talks in the new year. Once again, a desire to edit videos took over me, but this time I claimed several issues and tasks on GitLab. Right now, I intend to finish them before too long. Also, carrying experience from the last year, I created the Editing Kit to save some nerve cells of fellow CFS video editors. Perhaps, it will warrant more commonality between videos and help the Summit buff its own design identity with the use of motion graphics, a logical step after logo and cards.

Fedora Design Team

By offering video renders, computer graphics and various troubleshooting during and after every Summit, I realized that my services may come in handy for promoting FOSS products in Fedora's editorial. I hope to join the crew, Fedora Design Team!
