QA:Testcase NetworkManager celldata
This test case tests whether NetworkManager can establish an Internet connection using a cellular data (3G) modem. You will require some kind of cellular data modem (a PC Card or ExpressCard, or a USB modem) to perform this test. The test assumes the connection is not previously configured.
How to test
- Start up the system. Remove any other network connection, to make it easy to tell whether or not the connection is working
- If you are taking part in the 2009-08-13 NetworkManager Test Day, using system-config-selinux, set SELinux to Permissive mode (to work around Bug #516450)
- Connect your modem (either insert the card or plug in the USB modem)
- Click on the NetworkManager applet in the system tray (if you are taking part in the 2009-08-13 NetworkManager Test Day, you may have to perform the workaround for this known issue in Rawhide before you can do this)
- Click on New Mobile Broadband connection...
- Follow the wizard through, and select your cellular service provider. If it is not listed, you will need to enter the name of the provider and then the name of the APN for the service (this information should be available from your provider)
- Complete the wizard
- Once you have correctly completed the configuration wizard, the connection should activate and you should be able to use the Internet as normal. If domain name resolution seems to be failing (e.g. Firefox sticks at Resolving (hostname)), check
/etc/resolv.confand see if it lists 10.11.12.13 and 10.11.12.14 as the name servers. - Your service provider should be listed in the pre-configured choices. If it was not, you can file a bug. Include the name of your service provider (and, if they're a virtual operator using another operator's network, the name of the host operator, if you know it), the country you live in, whether this is a GSM-type or CDMA-type network (if you know), the APN for the connection (if GSM-type), the 'marketing name' of the data plan (for e.g. AT&T Data Connect), and the username and password required for the plan, if there is one
