Repository Layout / Old Download Server

This document is merely of interest to people who want to know what is contained within the individual directories on the old download server and its mirrors.

In the past, the several directories have been a source of confusion, because the old download server also mirrors the Fedora Core (and Red Hat Linux) base distribution packages. It does this mostly for users of APT-RPM , an optional utility which is included within Fedora Extras and which requires special repository meta files to be available on a download server. These files are not available on the primary Fedora Project Download Server .

Fedora Extras for Fedora Core 3

The Fedora Extras repository uses a simplified layout. It's mirror at download.fedora.us looks the same as with Fedora Core 2 compatible extras, except that the stable/testing/unstable channels have been replaced with the single extras channel.

As of 2005-02-04, the Fedora Extras testing and development channels are still empty.

Only users of APT-RPM may need to use the old download server or one of its mirrors. Users of Yum or up2date can choose their download server more freely.
