Why do you want to work with the Fedora Project?

I decided to choose to work with fedora, because it was my first linux distribution, which made me passionate about the world of linux. I still use Fedora and I try to help as I can. Since I started my experience, I'm always wanted to start helping the Italian team of translations, but for time reasons I couldn’t and now that I’m more free I will start.

Do you have any past involvement with the Fedora project or any other open source project as a contributor?

This for me would be my first big contribution to linux world. In my past I published on my blog and spread to the forums how I managed to keep alive an old macbook with fedora by fixing the issues and tweaking it. You can check it here[1] . I would like (and I will) take part in Ninux.org (by entering in their network) that is a community network that fights for the freedom of internet.

Did you participate with the past GSoC programs, if so which years, which organizations?

I tried to apply some years ago with Ninux.org but I realized that I was too young for apply cause I still was in high school. :(

Will you continue contributing/ supporting the Fedora project after the GSoC 2014 program, if yes, which team(s), you are interested with?

For sure!! I’m so excited about this project.. I met an ambassador here in Rome and he enticed me to contribute in the teams. I still don’t know in which teams I would like to take part, but for sure the first one will be the translation team.

Why should we choose you over other applicants?

This is a big question.. I’m a student of the first year and I tried to apply the past year without success (due I was too young). I’m a geek since I was a child and now that I’m in the university I’m trying to make true my dreams by hacking them :P I would like to contribute to Fedora Project by doing something that I really like, because I think that you can reach the best results only if you believe in them. I have experience in web programming and I created many websites in the past.

Proposal description

I saw in the wiki the proposal about improving the project Dorrie. I’m really interested because I saw a lot of projects for the GSoC and all of them were scarying me.. This one not, this one made me think “I can do that!”, so I’m here applying to it! I have just a little of experience with python, but I will take a lot of time to study it, since I think that I will need it even in my working future. As mentioned before I have experience in websites especially in php, but also javascript, css, html and c++. I intend to implement my proposal by using the existing code. For now I didn’t find a way to use it, so I would like to make it useable and improve what needs to be improved after talking with a mentor (eg. Implementing with the FAS, default wallpaper/hostname/user-password/root-password,Custom repos/RPMs, Home directory content, Search Packages, Image type: ISO, virt image, raw disk)

A rough timeline for your progress

- Now – 19 May, 2014: Study of Python and django.

- May 19, 2014 - May 31, 2014 : Interaction with the mentor, community and review the tasks by the mentor.

- June 1, 2014 - July 25, 2014 : Work on it.

- July 25, 2014 - August 1, 2014 : Mid term Evaluation

- August 2, 2014 - August 11, 2014 : Optimization of the work.

- August 11, 2014 - August 17, 2014: Review Code, write documentation.

- August 18, 2014 : Final evaluation and submission.

Have you communicated with a potential mentor? If so, who?

Due the rush of the deadline I tried to contact by IRC (#Fedora-India) Shrink that is a mentor of the project of I’m interested but he was not available. I will get in touch with him soon..
