Please integrate in the system some "language" info so apps know what language the user is typing. They need this info to select automatically the right spellchecker and OpenType rules.

Since there is no 1:1 relationship between languages and input methods (the same method can be used to input different languages, and different methods can be used to input the same language) both input and language info are needed.

(this is one thing Windows i18n gets right and Linux get totally wrong) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nim (talkcontribs)

migration from SCIM

Also, please offer a migration path from SCIM. I'm a long-time SCIM user and I use it to type in Japanese. Does IBus have a similar applet that shows the current active input method and allows switching between available methods using a user-specified keyboard shortcut? --Rathann 15:45, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

remote X displays support

Another issue: does it work across remote X sessions? i.e. via ssh -Y or X -query remote-display-manager. --Rathann 21:10, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Is it still (easily) possible to use SCIM?

If I've seen right, there are only a few modules for IBus - for SCIM I get XX in the repos. So will it be still possible to use SCIM in an easy way? And does IBus have all SCIM-Features? -- Mschoenitzer 16:45, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

In SCIM there is an Bug witch don't allow to use ther ALtGR-key on German keyboards in Java-Applications when Scim is running. Please check if IBus has also this Problem. -- Mschoenitzer 16:45, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
