Can't make the date?
If you come to this page before or after the test day is completed, your testing is still valuable, and you can use the information on this page to test, file any bugs you find at Bugzilla, and add your results to the results section. If this page is more than a month old when you arrive here, please check the current schedule and see if a similar but more recent Test Day is planned or has already happened.

What to test?[edit]

Today's installment of Fedora Test Day will focus on the Sugar Desktop environment. Sugar is an alternative desktop environment meant to be educational & user-friendly for children.

More information about Sugar can be found at the Sugar Labs web site.

Who's available[edit]

The following cast of characters will be available testing, workarounds, bug fixes, and general discussion ...

Prerequisite for Test Day[edit]

The following prerequisites are recommended:

How to test?[edit]

Live image[edit]

If you do not wish to alter your computer's existing software, you may download a non-destructive live image for your architecture. Tips on using a live image are available at FedoraLiveCD. Live images can be found here for Fedora 17 TC2. The "SoaS" image is the one you want to download.

Test Cases[edit]

Test Results[edit]

If you have problems with any of the tests, report a bug to Bugzilla usually for the component. Issues with Sugar activities which do not appear to be Fedora-specific should be filed in the Sugarlabs bug tracker. If you are unsure about exactly how to file the report or what other information to include, just ask on IRC and we will help you. Once you have completed the tests, add your results to the Results table below, following the example results from the first line as a template. The first column should be your name with a link to your User page in the Wiki if you have one, and the second should be a link to the Smolt profile of the system you tested. For each test case, use the result template to enter your result, as shown in the example result line.

Activities[edit]

Please Note: When testing Sugar activities for this test day, please install them through the "yum" package management system, or by using the "Add/Remove Software" graphical interface found in Fedora.

The Sugar environment supports user-installed activities through sites such as activities.sugarlabs.org. But if you install an activity via an ".xo" file from a site like this, you are not installing the activity into the same directory used by Fedora's installer, and may also not be testing the same version of the activity currently found in Fedora.

User interface[edit]

  • Theme colors
    Warning warn fgrose
    • The new sugar-artwork theme with gray-bordered naming dialog (on first activity close) lacks a white pixel edge to distinguish the dialog frame from the underlying content. This can lead to confusidialng blending of gray areas when the underlying content is gray. The Moon activity is and example, where the gray left sidebar blends with the gray naming og frame. The Jukebox activity is another, where the right part of the window blends with the dialog frame.
    • Highlighting text in this wiki's text editing box, for example, shifts to all black on the dragging of a selection. This obscures the content text and makes it very difficult to see the drop target cursor.
